The increased fees were proposed in June and submitted for public comment. Officials with the National Seashore say the new rates will offset increased utility costs for hookups and will make the campground more comparable to other area RV camping facilities in an effort "to avoid unfair competition." RV campsites with hookups at the Fort Pickens Campground will increase to $40 per night. Those with Senior and Access Passes will receive a 50 percent discount on camping fees. Gulf Islands National Seashore will also establish a tent-only section in the Fort Pickens Campground. Nightly fees for the section will remain at the current rate of $26 per night. The increased fees are part of the National Park Service's new nationwide entrance fee rate structure, which the NPS wanted all parks to implement by 2017. People under the age of 16 and those 62 and older with a Senior Pass do not pay entrance fees. A seven-day pass is $20 and provides access to all areas within the National Seashore. Motorcycle admission will increase from $10 to $15, and the cost of the annual pass will increase to $40. Individuals on foot, on bicycle or in large non-commercial vehicles will pay $10 per person, as opposed to the current $7. 1, admission to the park will be $20 per private vehicle, up from the current $15. Gulf Islands National Seashore officials have announced increased fees for admission into the park and for use of the Fort Pickens Campground.
